JUAN-PEDRO FABRA GUEMBERENA

I oktober 2017 öppnade konstnären Juan-Pedro Fabra Guemberena STUDIO FABRA på Hjällbotorget i Göteborg. Den öppna ateljén har fungerat som en plats för produktionen av ett nytt konstverk.

Barnen från Hjällbo (Barnen från Moheda) är starten på ett projekt som kommer sträcka sig över nästa år när Fabra återvänder till Moheda för att utforma ett minnesverk över ruinen av flyktingförläggningen i Moheda dit han själv ankom som flykting från Uruguay 1979. Med utgångspunkt i Hjällbo påbörjar Fabra sin resa mellan centrum och periferi, fakta och mytologi, synlighet och osynlighet.

Siktet för den konstnärliga gestaltningen i Hjällbo är att adressera frågor kring konstruktionen av den nationella berättelsen och meningsskapande av en plats. Hur och vem kan göra anspråk på kultur, historier och landskap? Vem har rätt till ett fiktivt berättande och bidra till nya mytologier i Sveriges framtida historieskrivning?

Under de senaste åren har Juan-Pedro Fabra Guemberena börjat arbeta allt mer med personliga historier vilka behandlar erfarenheten av exil, geografiska förskjutningar och minnet. Bearbetningen av tiden i Moheda har gjorts tillsammans med poeten/skådespelaren Segal Mohamed Kadija. Med fiktionens kraft förskjuts det individuella vittnesmålet till att forma en ny kollektiv berättelse i det svenska samhällets framväxt.

Projektet curateras av Anna van der Vliet, konsult för Göteborg Konst och konstnärlig ledare ICIA – Institute for Contemporary Ideas and Art.

In October 2017, artist Juan-Pedro Fabra Guemberena opened STUDIO FABRA on Hjällbotorget in Gothenburg. The open studio has served as a place for the production of a new work of art.

The Children from Hjällbo (The Children from Moheda) is the start of a project that will extend next year when Fabra returns to Moheda to design a memorial on the ruin of the refugee settlement in Moheda where he himself arrived as a refugee from Uruguay in 1979. Based on Hjällbo Fabra begins her journey between center and periphery, facts and mythology, visibility and invisibility.

The aim of the artistic configuration in Hjällbo is to address questions about the construction of the national narrative and how to crate meaning of a place. How and who can claim culture, history and landscape? Who is entitled to a fictional story and contribute to new mythologies in Sweden's future history writing?

In recent years, Juan-Pedro Fabra Guemberena has begun to work increasingly with personal stories that deal with the experience of exile, geographical offsets and memory. The editing of the time in Moheda has been done with the poet / actor Segal Mohamed Kadija. With the power of fiction, the individual testimony is shifted to form a new collective story in the growth of Swedish society.
