JUAN-PEDRO FABRA GUEMBERENA

“Vad händer när någon annan tar över det hem som vi hastigt och ofrivilligt har fått lämna? JuanPedro Fabra Guemberena, kom till Sverige som barn vid slutet av 1970-talet, när hans föräldrar tvingades fly från militärdiktaturens Uruguay. Erfarenheter av politisk kamp, förtryck och exil vävs samman i hans konst. Hans mor deltog i motståndsrörelsen. Minnen från de två lägenheterna i Montevideo, där Fabra Guemberena tog sina första steg, reinkarneras i fotosviten El Complejo 2022. Bilderna togs 2006, när konstnären återbesökte sitt födelseland. Det är en annan familj som bor här nu, andra möbler och ting som har flyttat in. Ändå är det som om Fabra Guemberenas förflutna steg för steg uppenbarar sig i rum mens halvdunkel när han fotograferar dem. De yttre och inre stämningarna blandas. “What happens when someone else takes over the home that we suddenly and involuntarily had to leave? Juan-Pedro Fabra Guemberena came to Sweden as a child in the late 1970s, when his parents were forced to flee the military dictatorship in Uruguay. Experiences of political struggles, opp- ression and exile are interlaced in his art. His mother belonged to the resistance movement. Memories from the two flats in Montevideo, where Fabra Guemberena took his first steps, are reincarnated in the photo series El Complejo 2022. The photos were taken in 2006, when the artist revisi- ted the country where he was born. Another family lives there now, and different furniture and objects have moved in. And yet, it is as though Fabra Guemberena’s past reappears step by step in the half-darkness of the rooms as he photographs them. Outer and inner moods intermingle.
